It is a shrub species naturally found in Japan. Its height varies between 2-4 meters, and its width ranges from 3-5 meters. The moderately-sized plant extends by approximately 20-30 cm annually. It blossoms in May – June, producing light pink-white colored fruits in capsule form. The seeds are toxic. It can thrive in both sunny and shaded areas and is resistant to heat, wind, and frost. The elliptical, glossy dark green leaves are thick like leather. The plant is highly suitable for pruning and can be used in the art of topiary.
